“Financial markets are efficient enough for small-investors to rely on passive investing but inefficient enough for rare and good professional investors to practice value investing.”
So no more debate whether financial markets are efficient or not!

I was contacted by the Globe and Mail to appear in their “Me and My Money” column to talk about my current investments and portfolio approach. Pretty neat!

Mutual Fund Cost…It Can Kill an Investor on the Long-Run

Today on IndependentInvestor.Info, Marc Ryan posted a great article on the various mutual fund fees that investors are occurring beside the traditional MER. There so many different type of fees that investors are facing — about 13 different kind of fees!. It can be quite scary and dangerous to the investor. I highly suggest you to read the article.

Also article refers to another article written by www.bylo.org on fees.  Bylo shows how your portfolio erodes over time for a variety annual fund costs:

OUCH!

So please, when you invest, keep costs low! No wonder that funds that perform the best are the ones with the lowest fees!

Update:

My second article for independentinvestor.info was posted this week. I reviewed the “Dick Davis Dividend” book. It is an excellent book with many financial lessons and straight talk on finance for new and current investors. I highly suggest to either read the article I wrote or get the book!

Addition :

Update:

I have received some emails asking me why I did not reviewed discount brokers platforms or why I did not mentioned the key differences between discount brokers various trading electronic platforms.

The answer to this is quite simple:
1) If you are passive investor, there is no need for an advance trading platform. The simple and free (often web based) platform will do the job just fine. You don’t need technical analysis tools. Simply pointless.
2) The non-free web based platform are far from being cheap. It starts from $100 to $250 per year!

Ajout:
